2025 Presidential Election
The Irish Presidential Election of 2025 was held on 24th October 2025. Advised by the NEDS Management Board, An Coimisiún Toghcháin commissioned a three-wave longitudinal panel study. The survey includes a representative sample of the Irish population aged 18+, including voters and non-voters.
In total,1,773 respondents took part in the Presidential Election NEDS. With a specific focus on the three distinct waves, this study follows the same 1,312 respondents who completed all three surveys across the entire electoral cycle, capturing their attitudes and evaluations before and after polling day, including:
- Wave 1: Beginning of the campaign, 29th September – 6th October 2025,
- Wave 2: The week of the election, 17th – 23rd October, and
- Wave 3: After the election, 25th October – 3rd November.
As with previous NEDS, there are two main parts to the study. The first covers questions which are of relevance to the work of An Coimisiún in delivering its functions. This section includes a focus on topics such as voter experience, voter knowledge, voter engagement and voter registration.
The second part covers questions selected by the experts on the NEDS Management Board which are informed by existing research on election studies. These questions support the development of quality electoral research for Ireland and brings Ireland into line with data collected for other countries, thereby allowing participation in international and comparative studies.
